Uganda set to withdraw from 2022 Africa Ludo Championship

Uganda national Ludo team (Uganda Doves) comprising of 11 players that were selected by the Uganda Ludo Federation (ULF) for the 2022 Africa Ludo Championship could withdraw from the continental event over financial crisis.

This was revealed by Hussein Kalule, the federation president during the dicing off of the national league at Lugogo Hockey grounds on Sunday.

Uganda Doves is slated to depart for the championship in Pretoria, South Africa at the end of September to defend their title which they won last year in Dubai.

However, Kalule is concerned about the team’s participation in the event due to lack of finances with the government through National Council of Sports (NCS) yet to come to the rescue.

“We don’t know why government has not yet committed to support us in the forthcoming Africa Individual championship from 24th-28th September,” Kalule expressed his discontent.

Adding, “We have met with the General secretary of NCS, we also wrote to the minister Peter Ogwang but we haven’t got any reply from him.”

“Last year, we faced the same challenges, we didn’t get funds from government and National Council of Sports, but this time around we won’t travel to South Africa in the same manner. We used our own money but didn’t let Ugandans down, we won the trophy and it’s here in Uganda.”

The Uganda Doves team awaiting departure include Nagaddya Beth (Nansana Galaxy), Nakamya Kurusum (Basajja Bayiiya), Nabwami Grace (Kisansa Kireka), Mugabi Peter (Ntinda United), Mayanja Henry (Nansana All Stars ), Matovu Huzaifa (Masaka Giants), Ssensanga Stephen (Kosovo), Mubiru Emmanuel (Nansana Galaxy), Natuhweza Johnson (Ntinda United), Mulondo Jimmy (Buyende United) and Nabuuma Teddy (Wakiso Club).

“We have won three major trophies outside Uganda and we are one of the most performing federations but we shall wait till the last minute.” Kalule concluded.

The team is due fo enter a residential camp in preparations for the championship.
