The Uganda Ludo Federation (ULF) held its first capacity-building workshop for sports teachers from various districts in Uganda on Sunday, June 18th, at St. Joseph Primary School in Nansana.
The one-day seminar was designed to help sports teachers of both primary and secondary schools have an introduction to the game of Ludo, which is set to hold an inaugural Ludo for Schools tournament in a few months.
The workshop was under the theme ” LUDO AS AN INCLUSIVE GAME”.
More than two hundred (200) sports teachers, in company with their students from various schools, honored the invitation.
The workshop was presided over by instructors from ULF: Kawuuki Simon, Ssebanenya George, Katumba Faisal, Ssendawula Gerald, Odur Alex, and Kalule Hussein ULF President.
Kalule Hussein, the President of the Uganda Ludo Federation, expressed his pride in seeing the sports teachers, students, and kingpins of Sports in schools from various districts in attendance for constructive discussions.
“I am grateful to the sports teachers for taking time out of their extremely busy schedules to attend this important meeting. Your commitment towards this meeting shows you are committed towards making Ludo in Schools better—a key ambition of the ULF under the theme “Ludo as an Inclusive game” ,” Kalule told participants during the opening ceremony.
“I am so excited to meet you for the very first time. Ludo is a common game, and 98% of the people play it in their homes, but the difference is in the way it’s played because we have amateur and professional levels.
“The main reason for this workshop is to sensitize the teachers about the game so that they can have the capacity to train students accordingly in preparation for the school tournament.
“We are going to start with a few districts due to a lack of funds.
“We are focusing on schools because we want to build a new generation of young, talented players that will be part of the national teams. We are the world champions, Africa champions, and club champions, and breeding a new generation of players will help us as Uganda to stay afloat at both continental and world levels.”
Earlier this year, Ludo was pooled with Chess in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) mind games category, slated to climax in October 2023.
The two winning schools in the secondary (senior) and primary ( juniors ) will represent Uganda at the inaugural edition of the Africa Ludo for Schools Tournament in 2024 in South Africa.
