Uganda Doves depart for World Cup

The Uganda National Ludo team “Uganda Doves” departed Entebbe International Airport yesterday evening for Nepal to participate at the 2022 World Ludo Championship organized by the International Ludo Federation.
The team that was flagged at the National Council of Sports on Thursday last week had initially consisted of 5 players and 3 officials who were meant to jet out of the country latest on Saturday evening as they were waiting for the promised funds to be deposited on the Federation’s account.

As time elapsed, the Federation devised other alternatives to make it to the biggest Ludo tournament in the World.

The federation borrowed funds from money lenders ,well wishers but the amount was not enough where by their was also self funding by the travelling players to represent Uganda and the biggest Ludo extravaganza.

This prompted the federation to further cut the team size to five players and one official (President) who also doubles as the vice president of the international Ludo Federation.

“We managed to travel to Nepal to represent Uganda at the World Ludo Championship despite the challenges we faced in terms of funding. We missed participating at the 2022 Africa Ludo Individual Championship that were in South Africa at the end of September but amidst all the above am very optimistic that the Uganda Doves will hold the Uganda Flag up high at this tournament”. Said the Federation President Kalule Hussein.

Africa’s finest Uganda and South Africa are the only two representatives from the African continent.

Uganda is pooled in Group A with Saudi Arabia United Arab Emirates and Pakistan and Uganda will be dicing today afternoon.

The group stages will be played in Kathmandu and the semi finals and finals in Dubai.

It’s a three days tournament with one day of practicing and two days of competitiveness scheduled to climax on 30th November 2022.
