Nyambankuyambe and Kasambya Ludo Club capped their entry into the Uganda National Ludo Championship with trophies after reaching the finals of the Nakawa District Division One tournament.

In a thrilling final that was held at Nakawa Market on Sunday, the Mbuya-based Ludo club Nyambankuyambe were crowned champions after a 2-0 Victory over Kasambya Ludo Club, which hails from Mutungo.

The Nakawa District Division One Ludo Tournament diced off on April 12, 2023, with 42 clubs in the mix.

It should be noted that the League One tournament is a pathway for all clubs in various districts to the Uganda National Ludo Championship.

All four semi-finalists, Nyambankuyambe Ludo Club, Kasambya Ludo Club, Kigowa United , and Basajja Ssubi Ludo Club, won cash prizes, trophies, and medals.

Kamoli Felisto, a player from Nyambankuyambe Ludo Club, was named the Most Valuable player of the tournament.

Kigowa United Ludo Club star man Kiwoko Peter emerged as the top scorer with 11 goals.

Nakawa West Member of Parliament Honourable Joel Ssenyonyi was the chief guest at the final of the tournament, and he gifted the Nakawa District Ludo Association with UGX 300,000 as a token of appreciation for organising a very competitive tournament and final that was graced by thousands of people.

In his speech, Honourable Joel Ssenyonyi vowed to promote the beautiful mind game of Ludo in Nakawa District.

Honestly, I didn’t know that this game is played by a lot of youth at a competitive level; I thought people just play it on the streets to pass time. It was through attending this event that I learned that Uganda is ranked number one in the world.

He added, “The issue of Ludo getting peanuts from the government, yet it’s a game with a lot of numbers and has proven to win everything at both continental level and at the world stage, still beats my understanding, but I promise to front the matter in Parliament. I will also host a Ludo tournament in a few months in Nakawa District to help promote the game.”

Mukasa Mike (Vice President Administration) and Nabbuma Teddy (Chairperson Organising Committee) represented the Uganda Ludo Federation (ULF) President Hussein Kalule at the final.

In his letter, ULF President Hussein Kalule extended his gratitude to all the teams and players that took part in the tournament.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank clubs and players that put up spirited performances from the start till the end of the tournament. For the players, Ludo is a game that helps transform lives if you take it more seriously and play it at the highest levels.” Said President Hussein Kalule in this letter.
