Ngobi Zaake has become one of the first major managerial casualties of the 2023 season of the Uganda National Ludo Super League, with the owners of Basajja Bayiiya sacking the tactician just five competitive games into the new campaign.
Zaake’s final act as Basajja Bayiiya head coach was to preside over a draw 2-2 a home to 2018 Champions Nansana All Stars.
During the game, Coach Ngobi Zaake made a very unusual mistake of fielding the same player twice from the bench . According to the rules governing the League’s, a player is allowed to start every set, and come on as a substitute once in the game.
When this landed into the ears of the top officials at the club, The board members headed by Club Chairman Munnubi Muhammed held a closed door meeting and decided to relieve Ngobi Zaake of his duties.
Zaake’s overall record at Basajja Bayiiya saw him post 8 points ,with 2 victories and 2 draws in 5 competitive games – an enviable statistic by any standard for a club at the start of a campaign, a club that had ups and downs form wise at the start of last season. At the time of his sacking , Basajja Bayiiya were in 4th position at the table.
Zaake was immediately replaced by Ssemambo Steven who didn’t get a warm welcome as head coach on his debut, They lost to an energetic Kazo 4-0 on away soil.
Currently Basajja Bayiiya Ludo club are 8th on the table and they will be hosting debutants Gulu City on Match day Seven at Club Razah Salama rd on Thursday 4th ,May ,2023.
Nansana All Stars filled an appeal to the league organising committee after the incident and they will be waiting to be awarded 2 points as it’s evident that the coach abused the rules and regulations.
The 2023 National Ludo Super League will return Thursday 4th ,May 2023.
